Other Backgammon VariantsBackgammon boards are being used to play different kinds of backgammon games. Here you will find the basic rules of the most common variants.Hypergammon - Each player begins with three checkers. The setup is one piece on each of the three most distant points of the board (the 22-point, the 23-point and the 24-point). Other rules are the same as regular backgammon. Nackgammon – The game is similar to the regular version, except that the setup is a bit different. You have two additional checkers on the opponent's 2-point, which are taken from your mid-point (13-point), and 6-point. The game tends to be longer than regular backgammon. This is because you have more checkers on you opponent's home-board, so it is harder to bring them to your home. Tapa – The word "tapa" means "bottle cap" and it's an apt name because one seeks to block out the opponent's pieces. The starting position is as shown below A very popular game in Bulgaria and Greece (where it is also known as 'Plakoto'). The final goal of the game is the same as the standard version; however there is no hitting in the game. If you make a move on a blot, land on top of it and the enemy checker can't move as it is trapped, the opponent can't land on a point with a trapped checker on it. The setup is as follows: Each player starts the game with 15 checkers on the opponent's home board. Most of the other core-rules are the same. Longgammon – The game is exactly the same as backgammon, the only difference is the setup. Each player has 15 checkers on his opponent's one point (The same as Tapa).
